Pandora, Meet Box; Box, Pandora: from left, Logan Marshall-Green, Noomi Rapace, and Michael Fassbender have no idea what they're unleashing in PROMETHEUS.

Melding the spiritual and the graphic, the scientific and the horrific, that’s PROMETHEUS’ game. Ridley Scott’s return to the ALIEN universe, some thirty-three years after he turned genre film upside-down with the original film (but not a prequel; repeat: NOT A PREQUEL (but it is (sort of))), evidences no shortage of ambition — with a theme tagged to the search for the origins of humanity and a production that splashes every dollar of the budget across the screen in all its dark grandeur, this certainly puts THE PHANTOM MENACE to shame. The question is: With all of that, is it enough? Come join Cinefantastique Online’s Steve Biodrowski, Lawrence French, and Dan Persons as they discuss this ambitious and undeniably beautiful film and whether its soul is equal to its looks.

Then: Steve and Dan quickly discuss MADAGASCAR 3: EUROPE’S MOST WANTED, the third installment in DreamWork’s popular animals-running-amok series. Plus: Dan gives his capsule impression of the THUNDERCATS: SEASON ONE, BOOK TWO DVD set; and what’s coming to theaters.

  1. About your example of the planet not matching the planet in Alien (The atmostphere, looking earthlike). That would be because this is a different planet. The Prometheus planet is LV-223 and the Alien planet is LV-426. The ship in Alien was a different ship with a different story behind it.

  2. Also, the snake like creatures were a mutation from the worms they showed. The black ooze leaked onto them.

  3. Hi Guys,

As always great podcast. Prometheus is one of my new fav movies, and delivered.
I wanted to share some info with you guys on Prometheus that may clear up some of the unanswered or confusion you have while watching this. Some of the plot points/facts I’m about to drop are pretty much all over the web.
1st thing is that The moon/planet Prometheus takes place is “not” LV-426 the moon/planet that the original Alien movie takes place on, hence the diffrent atmosphere and landscape. The moon/planet Prometheus takes place on is LV-223 ALMOST 30 year before the first “Alien” Nostromo trip.
So two diffrent planets. There wasn’t just one derelict alien spacecraft for all we know there could have been many plotted about the galaxy ready to unleash their cargo to many worlds or just earth.

The 2nd thing is, you guys were confused about why David infected Charlie with the goo. When David speaks to Peter Weyland in that chamber where he was in his hyper/sleep bed using that funky helmet. He was speaking with him through his his dreams/sleep consciousness or whatever you want to call it.
David infects Charlie because he was programmed to directly follow Peter Weyland’s orders and when he communicated with him he ordered him to take a more aggressive way to find a cure (“Try harder”) also taking into account that David informed him of the organic goo he found on the cannister. The “cure” meaning the cure that could prevent Weylands death.

The sequence in the begining of the film which I’m not sure if you got, was the humanoid Engineer(Prometheus)sacrificing himself by drinking a form of “goo”. When he falls into that water his dna is released to mix in with “The earths petri dish of organisms ” the Birth of evolution? mankind etc. This parallels greek mythology with the Titan “Prometheus”. Acording to Wikipedia in Greek mythology, Prometheus is credited with the creation of man from clay and the theft of fire for human use, an act that enabled progress and civilization. He is known for his intelligence, and as a champion of mankind.
Basically the other Titans(Engineers) wanted to reverse this and punish him/or us for this. That is why they want to destroy us because now we have “The fire” the power(technology) to destroy them.

Anyway guys, You can check these plot points or whatever you may call them and hopefully some of your confusion about this film may be resolved. It’s not a direct prequel to “Alien” takes place in the same universe but not the same moon/planet. Also if you notice there were more then one larget structure on that planet that housed “Ships” so there is more then one ship on that planet. And on other planets/moons we know that now.

There are still questions to be answered but I hope my note answers afew.

    cheers!
