Box Office: The Unborn delivers in third place
THE UNBORN, the David Goyer horror film that opened this weekend, sold only enough tickets to land in third place, behind GRAN TORINO and BRIDE WARS; however, that was still better than many recent horror films have performed. Opening in 2,357 North American theatres, the film earned an estimated $21.1-million. By way of comparison, ONE MISSED CALL – which opened in January of last year, earned $26.9-million during its entire run in North American theatres.
As for continuing science fiction, fantasy, and horror films:
- CURIOUS CASE OF BENJAMIN BUTTON was in fifth place with $9.5-million for a three-week total of $94.3-million.
- BEDTIME STORIES was in sixth place with $8.6-million for a three-week total of $97.2-million.
- TWILIGHT was in 12th place with $2.8-million for an eight-week total of $181.4-million.
