We all know the Spirit of Christmas is coming soon, so why not have THE SPIRIT come at Christmas? That seems to be the strategy behind the release date of writer-director Frank Miller’s adaptation of Will Eisner’s comic book character, which makes its big-screen debut on December 25. Gabriel Macht stars as rookie cop Denny Colt, who is murdered and comes back from the dead as the titular crime-fighter. Eva Mendes, Samuel L. Jackson, and Scarlett Johansson provide support. The trailer makes the film look like an extension of the graphic novel stylings seen in SIN CITY, but it also suggests a Batman film without the Batman. Will audiences be interested?
