Buffy the Vampire Slayer Movie?

Esplatter.com recycles a report from the Herald Sun newspaper in Australia, speculating that the success of TWLIGHT could result in a new feature-film version of BUFFY THE VAMPIRE SLAYER:

The monster success of girly vampire pic Twilight at the US Box office last weekend could kick open the door for a big-screen return of Joss Whedon’s much-loved Buffy the Vampire Slayer. Rumours are circulating in Hollywood that Whedon has a feature-film script based on his hit TV series ready to roll as soon as a studio is prepared to commit.

BUFFY began life in 1992 as a feature film starring Kristy Swanson. A box office failure, the film has long been eclipsed by the subsequent television show. Considering how much trouble series star Sarah Michelle Gellar has had filling big screen roles, it would certainly be novel if the new film were to revert to the previous casting. Of course, legions of die-hard fans would be outraged, guaranteeing box office trouble, but then Joss Whedon’s SERENITY proved that pleasing a faithful following is no guarantee that a film version of a defunct TV show will become a theatrical hit.
