Box Office: Twilight sets
TWLIGHT is turning out to be extremely brief. Last weekend’s box office winner dropped over 60% in its sophomore session, finishing in third place behind newcomer FOUR CHRISTMASSES and holdover BOLT. Still, the vampire-teen-romance, which was produced on a modest budget, has nothing to worry about: the weekend take of over $26-million pushed its domestic total to nearly $120-million, and a sequel is already in the works.
Disney’s BOLT showed surprisingly strong legs for a little pup. After a relatively weak opening in third place (behind TWILIGHT and QUANTUM OF SOLACE), its U.S. box office gross actually improved 1% this weekend, pushing the film up to #2.
Meanwhile, SOLACE, the new 007 film, continued its decline in U.S markets. After opening at #1 with nearly $70 million two weeks ago, the film dropped to second place last weekend and to fourth place this weekend, earning $19.5-million. Nevertheless, the U.S. gross stands at $142.1-million, and the accountants can take solace in the film’s overseas earnings: after five straight weekends at #1, the film’s foreign cume stands at $340-million, yielding a worldwide totla of $482-million.
