News: Eric Red plans to enjoy “Nightlife”
Eric Red earned his place in cult history by writing THE HITCHER and co-writing NEAR DARK back in the 1980s. Since then, he has morphed into a writer-director; his recent work is not as high-profile, but he does keep busy. Having wrapped up something called 100 FEET, he has some new irons in the fire, including a vampire pic titled NIGHTLIFE. At a Fangoria convention in New Jersey this weekend, he revealed a few details:
He told the Fango audience that the script for NIGHTLIFE is complete and they’re in the very early stages pre-production. As to the films plot, he told us in our interview that, “It’s a contemporary vampire story set in San Francisco. (Where Red plans on shooting the film.) It’s very graphic in terms of violence and sexuality. It’s about a girl who comes to San Francisco looking for her missing sister. She received a letter from her and she’s come to find her and she meets this guy who’s very handsome and charismatic and successful who was friends with her sister, and he wants to help her find her. This guy, of course is a vampire and her sister got away from him. But he turned the sister into a vampire, and she’s now trying to find a way (since he never told her how to kill vampires), to learn how to kill vampires so she can kill him. So you have one sister going together with this guy to try to find her missing sister. And then the other sister learning how to kill vampires so she can get this guy and they’re all headed on a collision course.”
Red is currently finalizing a distribution deal for the independently produced 100 FEET, which he hopes will go theatrical. The film stars Famke Janssen as a woman sentenced to house arrest after killing her husband in self-defense; unfortunately, the house is haunted by her husband’s ghost.
