Barker’s Books to Bloody the Big Screen

Variety reports that Clive Barker’s Books of Blood are on their way to the big screen. The plan is to launch a film franchise based on the six collections of Barker’s short stories and novelettes.

Up first is BOOK OF BLOOD, based on the introductory story in the first volume, in which an investigation into a haunted house attracts the wrath of angry spirits, who scratch their stories in blood upon the skin of one investigator, turning him into a living “book of blood.”

Sophie Ward and jonas Armstrong have been signed to star for director John Harrison (TALES FROM THE DARKSIDE), who adapted the story with Darin Silverman. Clive Barker will produce the film, which is to be a co-production between Matador Pictures and Midnight Picture Show. Essential Entertainment will handled worldwide sales.

Production of this film was announced (apparently prematurely) when a couple of Scottish newsites ran articles about Scotland’s growing popularity as a location for making horror films. See our post on the topic here.
