“Mist” DVD to be shrouded in black-and-white

THE MIST is scheduled for release on March 25 in two editions, Standard and Collector’s.

The Standard Edition will feature the color version of the film, an audio commentary with director Frank Darabont, eight deleted scenes, and a conversation with Darabont and author Stephen King.

The Collector’s Edition will also include these extra features: a making-of featurette; a “Shooting Scene 35″ featurette; a look at the creature effects; a visual effects featurette; appreciation of artist Drew Struzan; and a black-and-white version of the film.

Over at E-Splatter.com, Lucius Gore speculates that this last feature indicates that Darabont wanted the film to be released in black-and-white. To me, it sounds more like a gimmick to drum up interest for a DVD of a movie that no one wanted to see in theatres (”Hey, guys - maybe the bad ending looks better in black-and-white!”).
