Laserblast: Harry Potter Mania!

It seems Harry Potter mania today in the world of home video, with no less than five different version of HARRY POTTER AND THE ORDER OF THE PHOENIX released on disc: Two-Disc Special Edition; Widescreen Edition; Full-Screen Edition; HD DVD; and Blu-ray Disc. In addition, there are three “Harry Potter Years 1-5 Limited Edition Gift Sets”: DVD, Blu-ray, and HD DVD. Of course, the old titles are being reissued as well as separate discs, in case you need only one or two to complete your collection, not the whole box set. The two-disc DVD contains these bonus features on the extra disc:

  • 11-minutes of deleted scenes
  • “Trailing Tonks,” a tour of the production compound with actress Natalia Tena, who plays the character in the film
  • “Hidden Secrets,” a 45-minute featurette with interviews of the cast, crew, and authors of scholarly works examining the franchise
  • “The Magic of Editing,” an interactive editing studio, preceded by a five-minute introduction to editing techniques, that allows you to reshape a scene in the Room of Requirement

This week’s other home video releases include LOST - THE COMPLETE THIRD SEASON (in DVD, Blu-ray, and Spanish-language versions); LATITUDE ZERO (a 1960s Japanese science-fiction opus with a couple of imported American stars, Joseph Cotton and Cesar Romero); SILENT NIGHT, DEADLY NIGHT; some more MASTERS OF HORROR; and the zombie-western UNDEAD OR ALIVE. Check out this week’s DVD releases below the fold.
