Christmas Horror Wish List

Over at AMCTV.Com’s Monsterfest blog, Matthew Kienan offers up an interesting Christmas wish list, which includes such worthwhile items as the Godzilla DVD Collection and the Tim Lucas book Mario Bava: Al the Colors of the Dark. Unfortunately, he ruins it by included the DVD of DEATH PROOF - which he rather absurdly calls the “best (and most original) horror film of the year.”

Leaving aside whether DEATH PROOF is any good (it certainly is not), it is hardly original, nor is it a horror movie, being a pastiche of old Grindhouse exploitation movies, with an emphasis on stunts and action.

Kienan also insists that the film’s Stuntman Mike (Kurt Russell) is “one of the all-time great horror villains.” Even leaving the inaccurate “horror” designation aside, I think Stuntman Mike was disqualified from competing in this category the minute he started cryling like a little girl when the tables were turned. You won’t see that happening with Dracula, Frankenstein, Hannibal Lecter, Freddy Kruger, Jason Voorhees, etc.
