I Am Legend gets new ending?
Chud.Com reports that I AM LEGEND was conducting reshoots as late as last week, apparently to retool the ending. This will make for some busy times in the editing room, as the film’s press junket (usually conducted after a screening) is scheduled for the end of this month.
The original Richard Matheson novel has a downbeat ending in which the hero commits suicide. The previous two film adaptations, THE LAST MAN ON EARTH and THE OMEGA MAN, ditched the suicide angle but did have the hero die. According to the Chud article, the scripted ending of the new film was already altered from the book; one can only imagine that the studio wants to make the movie even more upbeat.
