The claim that Roger Ebert didn't trash NIGHT OF THE LIVING DEAD is a bit of revisionism on Ebert's part. His condemnation rings loud and clear in his original review - which never says anything to suggest it's a good film, just inappropriate for children.

Just a bit of trivia: Roger Ebert didn't actually trash Night. In fact, he never properly reviewed it. The article he published about it was a commentary on its violence and the fact that a lot of children were exposed to it because it got in under the wire as one of the last films to see wide release before the MPAA rating system was put in place. He said he admired the film itself, and added that were he to actually review the film, he'd give it 3.5 out of 4 stars.
