New actress beaming into Uhura role
Actress Zoe Saldana (who is currently filming AVATAR for James Cameron) is in negotiations to play Communications Officer Uhura, a role played by Nichelle Nichols in the classic television series. Saldana will be joining Anton Yelchin as Checkov and Zachary quinto as Spock in J. J. Abrams upcoming STAR TREK feature film, which will depict the formative days of the familiar characters who went on the Enterprise’s original five-year mission “to boldy go where no man has gone before.” Original Spock Leonard Nimoy has a cameo.
The new film is expected to open on Christmas Day 2008.
