Len Wiseman, who recently helmed the box office hit LIVE FREE OR DIE HARD, has signed on to direct the remake of John Carpenter’s futuristic 1981 thriller ESCAPE FROM NEW YORK. Gerad Butler (300) will star as Snake Plissken (a role originated by Kurt Russell), who is sent on a mission to Manhattan, which has become a maximum security prison. Ken Nolan (BLACK HAWK DOWN) is writing the new script. John Carpenter is on board as executive producer.

Previous Carpenter properties to be remade include THE FOG, ASSAULT ON PRECINT 13, and the upcoming Rob Zombie version of HALLOWEEN.
